THE COMMITTEE: -

(a) Approved the draft telegram from the

Prime Minister to the President, as amended in discussion, and instructed the Secretary to submit this telegram to the Prime Minister for approval; with a copy to the Foreign Secretary.

(b) Gave instructions that the telegram from the President, and the draft telegram from the Prime Minister when approved, should be repeated to Admiral Fraser, Admiral Mountbatten and the Dominion Governments.

(c) Instructed the Joint Planning Staff to examine the telegram from the President to the Prime Minister and to report on any further points which should be brought to their

notice;

(a) Agreed that the Foreign Office letter

(circulated as C.0.S. (45) 536 (0)) was answered by the above.

Subsequent to the Meeting, telegrams Nos. 856 and 857 were received from Chungking giving the Generalissimo's reply to our proposals about Hong Kong and French Indo China. Pending consideration of these telegrams, the Foreign Office asked that the submission to the Prime Minister of the draft telegram to the President be delayed. conclusions (a) and (b) above has therefore been deferred.
